School Board Election Information

School Board Elections in CFBISD

The voting procedure used to elect School Board Members in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch School District changed beginning with the May 7, 2016 election, Board Members were elected using cumulative voting. Under cumulative voting, Board members are elected by all voters living in the District.

In cumulative voting, you, the voter, can cast as many votes as there are Board member seats up for election. You can cast all of your votes for the same candidate or you can distribute your votes among multiple candidates. Cumulative voting is very flexible.

In CFBISD, we have seven Trustees that comprise our School Board.  Each School Board Member serves a three-year term.  To create continuity on the School Board, the terms of Trustees are staggered so that School Board Members come up for election in an annual cycle.  In May 2018, two seats will be up for election.  Two seats will be up for election in 2020.

The Uniform Election Day for the School Board Election is May 5, 2018. The District will hold a General Election for two seats with three-year terms using the cumulative voting method.

For the May 5, 2018 General Election, Board Members will be elected using cumulative voting. In cumulative voting, you, the voter, can cast as many votes as there are Board member seats up for election. You can cast all of your votes for the same candidate or you can distribute your votes among multiple candidates who have chosen to run in the General Election. You will have two votes for the General Election.  You can use your two votes in any combination. You are not required to cast all of your votes, but you cannot cast more than two votes.
